The Independent Mental Health Network (IMHN) has produced a useful guide to mental health support availableto people in the Bristol area over the Christmas and New Year period.

The guide, produced in partnership with Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Bristol Mental Health, brings together information on local mental health support from both the NHS and voluntary & community sector.

IMHN Project Manager Tom Renhard said:

Whilst for many the Christmas period can be a time of joy, celebration and relaxation, it is vital we remember that this can also be an especially difficult time of year for some. In particular, this could be the case for people who may feel increasingly isolated during this time or who may be struggling with their mental health and wellbeing for a variety of reasons.

The aim of this guide is to assist in helping people to access the right support at the right time, should they need to. We have also shared the guide with GP’s, existing services and local groups to help it to reach as many people as possible. I would encourage everyone to make use of this guide in a way they feel is helpful and share with work colleagues, family and friends.

A spokesperson for Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire CCG said:

Many of us look forward to Christmas, but it can be an overwhelming time of year, particularly for those struggling with mental health conditions. The huge emphasis on spending during the festive period can create feelings of loneliness and isolation, with difficult relationships with loved ones adding to stresses and pressures. Talking with family and friends can be a great help, but it’s important for us to let local people know that other support is available. We would encourage anyone who feels as though they can’t cope to speak with their GP to find out what help is available. The guide is a great resource for professionals and members of the public to find out which organisations can provide support for the people that need it most.

The Mental Health Services available over Christmas 2018 booklet can be found on the IMHN website and contains information on mental health and wellbeing services in the area, along with opening times between Christmas and New Year.
