Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire CCG is pleased to announce an electronic system for referrals from GP services to hospital appointments will be in place from Monday 4 June 2018 at North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) and University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust (UHB).

Traditional paper referrals have a higher rate of patients missing appointments at 10 per cent, whereas referrals sent electronically could reduce this by as much as half, saving an estimated £50 million across the whole NHS.

After NBT and UHB move to 100 percent electronic referrals, local people will get faster outpatient appointments and can choose a time and date that suits them.

Together, doctors and patients will be able to see in advance what services are available and how quickly the patient can be seen. For GPs, the electronic referrals system will also help to cut down paperwork and make it easier to track what is happening with their patients’ referrals.
