We are working with partners to develop health and social care services on the Thornbury Hospital site.
These would provide more outpatient appointments for local people as well as diagnostic services, a modern facility for GP services, community healthcare and enhanced nursing home care and extra care housing.
Thornbury Hospital currently provides an inpatient ward with 20 beds offering rehabilitation, intermediate care, palliative care, a limited range of consultant-led outpatient clinics, and community services (for instance, physiotherapy).
We are currently working with our community healthcare provider Sirona care & health, and North Bristol NHS Trust, to transfer the inpatient rehabilitation services currently provided on Henderson Ward to new, purpose-built facilities as part of our 3Rs programme.
This plan anticipates 80 beds on the Thornbury site, comprising up to 44 NHS rehabilitation beds plus 36 care beds with additional extra care housing and outpatient accommodation.
Two GP practices occupy the health centre, looking after just over 14,000 patients. We are currently working with the practices and others partners to develop a business case for a replacement health centre on the site.
What is proposed?
Under the proposals, the new health and care facilities on the site would deliver:
- community rehabilitation and nursing home beds
- outpatient accommodation
- a new health centre for local GPs
- extra care housing offering self-contained homes for older people.
