Developments at Frenchay

We are working with our partners to develop new health and care services on the former Frenchay Hospital site.

These include new community rehabilitation services delivered as part of our recovery, reablement, and rehabilitation ('3Rs') programme, which anticipates new community beds on the Frenchay site.

The rehabilitation beds are currently being provided on an interim basis on Elgar Ward at Southmead Hospital and will transfer to the Frenchay site when the new facilities are complete.

We are also working with our partners to bring additional extra care housing capacity to the site.

What is proposed?

  • New community rehabilitation service beds, to help people avoid hospital admissions and support people leaving hospital following an inpatient stay.
  • Extra care housing.
  • We will also continue to commission the Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit, the Headway Service and the Head Injury Therapy Unit on the Frenchay site.
