Domestic abuse and violence

Domestic violence, also called domestic abuse, includes physical, emotional and sexual abuse in couple relationships or between family members.

Violence and abuse can happen against women and against men. It includes:

  • domestic violence and abuse
  • sexual violence
  • forced marriage
  • female genital mutilation (FGM)
  • honour based violence
  • human trafficking
  • prostitution/sex work
  • sexual harassment
  • abuse between children and their parentsĀ 
  • violence in teenage relationships

There is no need to continue living in fear or feel that the abuse is your fault.
